Program Notes

Revisit one of the freshest and raciest of Henry Fillmore’s trombone features. Full of lively tunes and Fillmore’s trademark trombone “smears,” Shoutin’ Liza Trombone has always been a crowd pleaser.

- Program Note from publisher

In 1920, Henry Fillmore combined his background of church music with his love of bands and the trombone to create a new “smear” based on the Hallelujah Chorus, which he called Hallelujah Trombone. His father got very upset, saying, “This is just too much! This time you have gone too far. This is sacrilege." So young Henry changed the name to Shoutin’ Liza Trombone and published it. It became an instant hit, and today, over eighty years later, it is still as viable, fun, and popular as ever.
