Program Notes

This brilliant and challenging march is the perfect choice for your next performance. Features trombones in the opening two strains, a delightful woodwind variation in the trio, and a robust and powerful final chorus which will have toes tapping all throughout the audience. Lots of excitement from start to finish.

- Program Note from publisher

Some of Richards' best-known marches … were composed in 1909 and 1910 while he was busy playing in circus bands. Shield of Liberty was written thirty years later.

In addition to the outstanding countermelodies expected in most of Richards' marches, this one has a somewhat unusual key change – down a major third – in the trio.
