Program Notes

As the title suggests, this energetic, rhythmic work for band is written in the classic rondo form - but with a Latin tinge. Spicy hot with mixed meter highlights, and featuring a colorful Latin percussion flavor throughout.

-Program Note from publisher

This is a spirited work in classic rondo form with a taste of Latin. Picoso means hot or spicy in Spanish. The opening A material, marked allegro con chile, is characterized by many syncopated rhythms. The contrasting B material, though at the same tempo, is more legato, while the C material is cast in the minor mode. The critical percussion scoring requires a minimum of six players...all contributing to the Latin feel. This attractive new work with the 2012 winner of the NBA's Young Band Composition Contest...
