Program Notes

The Rising Sun was written by my good friend and renowned trumpet virtuoso Allen Vizzutti. This work has a Japanese flavor due to the pentatonic harmonies used throughout. Mount Fuji evokes images of its famous high peaks with the piccolo trumpeting emulating the shakuhachi bamboo flutes of Asia. Temples of Kyoto features the flugelhorn in a haunting melody, supported by a gentle E-flat "hum" in the band. Shinkasen – The Bullet Train is aptly named, when you hear the tempo!
