Program Notes

The piece is a musical autobiography of sorts -- most of my training is in writing for the jazz idiom, but before that was my passion, I grew up in school bands which draw from their own rich history of quality repertoire. Growing up in a quality music program meant that I was able to play great music, and mixing those sounds and conventions with my current explorations of jazz and blues has been a wonderful adventure for me. This is one of the only few pieces I've written that I feel like I can point at and say, "Yes, this is it! This is my sound."
