Program Notes

Rising Remixed was composed in 2009 as part of a Composer in Residence position with the Band of the Welsh Guards, based in London, Great Britain. It was premiered at the Household Division of the British Army Music Festival in July 2019, held at the famous Wellington Barracks.

The piece takes its name and main musical material from the regimental quick march of the Band of the Welsh Guards, The Rising of the Lark, a traditional melody from Wales. Here this melody has been stretched, distorted and spread though the pitch, tonal and rhythmic capabilities of the modern wind band to create a short and vibrant concert opener.
