Program Notes

Resonances was composed for and performed at the 1983 Conference of the International Trumpet Guild at Ithaca College.

The first movement is annunciatory; the second, sustained; the third, an angular toccata employing changing and asymmetrical meters. Cluster harmonies predominate throughout. Richard Burkart, President of the International Trumpet Guild, reviewing the work for the International Trumpet Guild Journal, found Resonances "a wonderful piece by an accomplished trumpeter and teacher."

The first complete performance was presented by The College of Wooster (OH) Trumpet Ensemble conducted by the composer on 30 April 1983 at The College of Wooster. Additional performances have included: the Eastman Trumpet Ensemble, University of Kentucky Trumpet Ensemble, University of Iowa Trumpet Ensemble, Boston University Trumpet Ensemble 1, Central Washington University Trumpet Choir, Atlanta Trumpet Guild at Auburn University; Kent State Trumpet Ensemble; Catskill Trumpet Quartet; trumpet ensembles at the Cleveland Institute of Music, New England Conservatory, Temple University, Ohio State University, Sam Houston State University, Western Carolina University, Ithaca College, Baldwin-Wallace College, Butler University, Texas A&M University at Kingsville, SUNY-Plattsburgh, Centre College and the Keystone Brass Institute (I).

Resonances is published by Queen City Brass Publications (a division of Manduca Music).
