Program Notes

This exciting concert opener uses the Phrygian mode both melodically and harmonically. The title of the work is word play on “refrigeration.” Marked “With great energy,” the work uses one tempo throughout except for a dramatic slowdown and fermata that prepares a stimulating finale.
