Program Notes

This march remains one of Latham's most popular works. Like Brighton Beach, it was listed in The Instrumentalist's 100 most popular marches four times between 1960 and 1976. An excellent processional or concert march, it makes use of the legato tone quality of the euphoniums and of the reeds in their lower range. The horns also share the spotlight. Additional contrasts are provided by the use of brass choir alone for several measures as well as by the powerful and brilliant climaxes of the full band.
