Program Notes

Progress Through Knowledge was written in celebration of the Centennial of Oklahoma Panhandle State University, celebrated in 2009. Its title is the motto of the University, which is also the title of the poem for the piece, written by Elaina Bell Stewart, and the winning entry in the OPSU Centennial Poetry Contest. While the genesis of the piece is occasional in nature, the literary theme and musical appeal are broad, and would apply to many situations. The choral parts are broadly accessible to a wide range of vocal ability levels, and the contra alto clarinet, 3rd and 4th horn and piano parts are optional and may be omitted ad libitum.
