Program Notes

Fresh, flowing, and beautiful. Expressing the joy of the coming of spring, this lush, introspective piece combines eighth-note accompaniments and legato melodies throughout. Enjoy the dialogue of each melody line and its fresh and bright atmosphere as we celebrate the coming of spring.

- Program Note adapted from publisher

Originally composed for string orchestra, commissioned by the North Ohio Youth Orchestras. This transcription for band sounds brighter than the original version because of the instrumentation and addition of percussion.

Primula is a delicate little flower that blooms in spring. The piece opens with a short introduction, after which the main theme begins. The combination of eighth-note accompaniment and legato melody flows everywhere. Enjoy the dialogue of each melody line and its fresh and bright atmosphere.

Let's celebrate the coming of spring!

- Program Note adapted from Wakeland High School Wind Symphony concert program, 17 December 2021

A primula is any primulaceous plant of the N temperate genus Primula, having white, yellow, pink, or purple funnel-shaped flowers with five spreading petals: includes the primrose, oxlip, cowslip, and polyanthus.
