Program Notes

Primitive Episodes is a series of short musical episodes that represent a tribe of primitive natives. There is extensive use of percussion, employing a variety of effects. Multiple sets of congas and bongos may be used, as these parts always double each other. Directors are encouraged to experiment with other percussion instruments while working this piece including guiro, cuica, djembe, cabasa, roto-toms, claves, caxix and various hand drums to achieve an authentic primitive effect.
