Program Notes
Precision March is one of many Harold Bennett (aka Henry Fillmore) marches that I have arranged. It has been my endeavor over the past 12 years to breathe new life into these delightful little marches. Fillmore was a master of the march form, and his tunes are first rate. This particular march from the famous Bennett Band Book series is a bit more difficult than the ones I have done up to this point. It is one that is not as well known as some of the other famous ones like Activity, Success or Military Escort. However, I think it is a forgotten gem, and a great tool for teaching younger students the march style and form.
Unlike most of the Bennett marches, this little march does contain a “break strain”, and there is the standard modulation to the subdominant at the Trio. The instrumentation has been changed to better fit the needs of today’s young bands.
