Program Notes

When the Renaissance dances of Michael Praetorius meet contemporary composer Douglas Akey, the result is an enchanting concert/contest piece for modern concert band. Based on three contrasting selections from Dances from Terpsichore, this work contains energetic rhythms and syncopations, dramatic contrasts in style and lively percussion writing.
