Program Notes

Pequeña Suite para Banda (Little Suite for Band) is cast in four movements, each presented with its own unique character. The first movement, Intrata, opens with an imposing fanfare, but quickly segues to an intense march. The second movement, Vals, is a waltz that displays Alarcón’s knack for writing light music. This movement pays subtle homage to Ravel’s La Valse. Movement three, Nana, displays the composer’s sense of musical line. The work closes with Galop, a fast and fun ride that takes the listener on an adventure through the different timbres and moods of the band.
