Program Notes

Away to the land of ice and snow! Penguins are among the cutest and funniest of creatures. They are great swimmers but cannot flt. While at home in the sea pursuing a meal of fish, when they're on land or an ice flow, they ambulate with a clumsy and amusing waddle. Let';s take an imaginary trip to the earth's southernmost seas in search of the comical penguin. Watch the colony parade past as the band plays Penguin Promenade.

- Program Note from VanderCook College of Music Symphonic Band concert program, 22 December 2006

Here's a cute little piece in a light staccato style for young bands. There's a nicely done question and answer between the woodwinds and brass and good use of percussion to help keep time for the parade.
