Biography

Pedro Lima Soares (b. 1994, Braga, Portugal) is a Portuguese composer.

Lima began his studies at the Conservatório de Música Calouste Gulbenkian de Braga, where he studied the clarinet, piano and percussion. There, he wrote his first works as Paulo Bastos’ Composition student. He continues his studies at the Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa, currently finishing his Master degree in composition, under the guidance of João Madureira and Luís Tinoco.

Some of Pedro’s works stand out from his catalogue: Síndrome do Pôr-do-Sol (narrativa de um paciente) (2014) for ensemble of four musicians; Sopro do côncavo (2015) for wind orchestra, prized winner at the "Concurso Nacional da Banda Sinfónica Portuguesa'"; ONCE AGAIN – Eternal Goodbyes (2015) for symphony orchestra, premiered at the Berlin Konzerthaus and Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation – commission by JOP/OCP; the musical Theatro – Um Ensaio Geral (2015-2016), a co-creation of three young composers – commissioned by Theatro Circo/Conservatório Gulbenkian de Braga; the work {…} e tu de mim voaste for symphony orchestra, winner of the "Prémio de Composição SPA/Antena2", premiered by the Gulbenkian Orchestra in 2016.
