Program Notes

Commissioned by the Musashino Academia Musicae, Japan, and premiered at the 2006 Midwest Clinic, this Ron Nelson composition is another major work for wind ensemble. Pastorale: Autumn Rune was inspired by the Finnish national epic, the Kalevala. In the words of the composer, this "is a quiet piece, intended to evoke night, mystery, and magic."
