Program Notes

This interesting, imaginatively conceived work uses Wondrous Love as its basis. Opening with a slow introduction featuring the brass in sustained legato style with fragments of the tune, the mood shifts to fast and energetic, featuring the woodwinds, with brass supplying rhythmic underpinning. After several contrasting episodes using different aspects of the melody, the work comes to a triumphal conclusion using the last phrase of the tune.
