Otar Gordeli

Biography

Otar Gordeli (18 November 1928, Tbilisi, Georgia – 1994) was a composer in the country of Georgia.

Gordeli studied piano and composition at the Tbilisi Conservatory, followed by graduate work in composition at the Moscow Conservatory in 1954. After his return to Georgia, he headed the Georgian Musical-Choreographic Society, taught at the Tbilisi Conservatory and was active in the Composers' Union. In 1966, he was made an "Honored Worker in the Arts" of Georgia. Gordeli is the author of works ranging from operetta, symphonic and choral music to film scores. Along with the Flute Concerto in D, he has composed a cantata The Seasons, a symphony and other orchestral works, a piano concerto, a piano quintet, pieces for piano and violin, songs on texts by Georgian poets, stage and cinema works, and jazz pieces.
