Program Notes

A delightfully melodic harbinger, Delius's On Hearing the First Cuckoo in Spring is a lushly beautiful pastoral work, with hints of cuckoo calls between instrument groupings. This peaceful, almost blissful, musical meandering is a five-minute respite during any concert program. The original orchestration is skillfully arranged for large wind ensemble.
