Program Notes

This whirlwind of energy evokes the heroic spirit of the early seafarers, those brave sailors who traversed the high seas during the peak of the clipper ship era. Woodwind flourishes set the stage for the heroic main theme, which establishes the pace of the work. The quiet middle section reflects the sailors' isolation from land and loved ones before the feeling of triumph emerges once again, as the thrill of sailing on the high seas comes crashing right into your concert hall.
