Program Notes
The work vibrates to the rhythm of the orchestras of popular music of the twentieth century, especially in the first and third sections, contrasting with the melodious and nostalgic central part, which is driven by the double bass with the Cuban key. The title of the work reflects the personality of López-Gavilán, who, with his humor, plays with the meanings of the word "band", since the work was originally composed by order of the band of the Italian city of Urdine where it was premiered in June 2017.
- Program Note from YouTube (machine translation)
Obertura Bandida is a rich exciting work with a wide spectrum of instrumental color and technique. Modern orchestration and texture bookend the piece and in the middle is a more traditional feel utilizing Cuban rhythm and style enticing one to dance. An exciting race to the end will have you on the edge of your seat and wanting more.
