Program Notes

Nova Stella: New Star Fanfare was composed for the Kickapoo High School Band in Springfield, Missouri to celebrate the opening of their new performance space.

Based on the chorus of the traditional English Carol Nova! Nova! Ave Fit Ex Eva, the fanfare begins with antiphonal players numbering three or more who are scattered throughout the audience in order to use the performance location to its best possible advantage. Large percussion forces (some of which are optional) are used to help introduce the rest of the ensemble to the celebration, and the combined efforts of all of the performers coalesce into an expression of musical joy.
