Program Notes

Musica Ethnote was premiered at the Yokosuka Arts Theater in July 2017 after receiving a commission from the Yokohama City Nakayama Junior High School wind orchestra club.

In making this work, I tried various music styles: Oriental sounds, vibrant Russian music, Middle East and Chinese scales, symphonic sounds. I was hoping to try on a different route from the past, but in fact, when I was writing this work, I had already completed five wind works in just four months. So when I was working on my creation, my own physical strength was just reaching its limit.

However, in such a situation, the songs that I made with the utmost effort to create good things were the medals and important treasures for me:

  • 音楽 means music.
  • 民族 means exotic and ethnic things.
  • 音符 means notes.

Combining these, the title was Musica Ethnote.

I hope this work has been performed by many bands and has reached the hearts of the audience.
