Program Notes

Morris dancing has been part of English culture and tradition for more than five centuries and still flourishes today in all parts of the UK. Holst's charismatic style is utilized in these four spirited dance tunes – Blue Eyed Stranger, Shepherd's Hey, Bluff King Hal, and Country Gardens -- each with an added brief introduction which also serves as an interlude for this through-played work. Charming as well as cross-cultural, the allure of these stylish dances is irresistible.
