Program Notes

Commissioned by the Arkansas State University Wind Ensemble and their Conductor, Dr. Timothy Oliver.

- Program Note from score

In Greek mythology, Morpheus is the god of sleep and dreams who may appear in any form and send good or bad dreams to mortals. This captivating and challenging commissioned work is intended to paint a dreamscape of sound where colors and textures shift and blend into one another. The composition conveys the often startling and illogical manner in which dreams can change and evolve by using unpredictable chord shifts, dramatic changes of dynamics, a variety of textures, and a meandering ostinato.
