Program Notes

"To be played from the top of a tower": this is Paul Hindemith's indication about the Morgenmusik, the "morning music". He conceived it as a tribute to the medieval tradition of greeting the sun with the clear blare of trumpets. On June 20th 1932, at dawn, it was performed for the first time, from the top of Plön Castle's tower.
