Program Notes

Moon Over Half Dome is a photography by Ansel Adams. The image depicts a granite mountain in Yosemite National Park with the moon hanging overhead to the left. To my eye, the dome almost looks as if it is in motion, like a wave being pulled upward by the moon.

This piece is a response to the image, using ever-increasing interlocking tempos and a constantly transforming ostinato to portray the mountain breaking loose and rising toward the moon.
