Program Notes

This majestic, commissioned overture is well-suited for young band festival or concert programming, or for use at celebratory occasions. A spirited fanfare accompanied by woodwind flourishes introduces the first section of the piece scored in time. Accompanied by martial percussion, this section features bold fanfare like melodic material throughout, presented initially by woodwinds before being joined by the full ensemble. A noble, contrasting section includes a prideful trumpet solo, soaring lines, and effective contrasts of texture and dynamics. Earlier material is then revisited as the piece moves to a powerful conclusion.
