Program Notes

Commissioned in 2010 by the Amstel and New Century Saxophone Quartets, May and June are played together with July (1995). The outer movements are energetic and fast, separated by a more reflective center movement. Each of the three were composed from rhythmic ideas, first, followed by imposed harmonic limitations, out of which came the melodic ideas.
