Program Notes

I had written several other pieces in previous years for public school residencies and have always enjoyed the process of working with the students and teachers on these projects. I composed Masquerade for a residency I did in Simsbury Connecticut Public School System. The piece was commissioned by the Simsbury Friends for Music & Performing Arts.

The musical material in Masquerade basically consists of a few themes that develop throughout, giving the piece an economical yet forward momentum. The composition is rhythmically precise and at other times very lyrical. Both of these contrasting aspects come together in places, giving the piece an interesting contrapuntal texture.
