Program Notes
Originally written for two pianos, Saint- Saëns composed Marche Heroïque during the Franco Prussian War. It expresses the patriotic sentiments of Saint- Saëns which were aroused by the heroic resistance of his countrymen. He dedicated Marche Heroïque to Régnault, a painter killed in action in 1871.
