Program Notes

Historically important, the suite this comes from is one of the first pieces written exclusively for military bands. This arrangement is based on the second theme of the March, a very lyrical melody reminiscent of British folk music. This accomplished setting brings this cherished work to the stands of your beginners, a most welcome addition to beginning band repertoire!

- Program Note from publisher

Holst’s Suite in E-flat for Military Band was composed in 1909, but did not premiere until 1920. It was one of the first pieces written exclusively for military bands, as most pieces played by bands at the time were transcriptions of orchestral music. This arrangement is based on the second theme of the March, a very lyrical melody, reminiscent of British folk music.
