Program Notes
This march was commissioned by the New York State School Music Association to commemorate the American Bicentennial and to also honor Dean L. Harrington, one of its veteran members.
The work opens with the brasses playing an eight-tone row based on the major scale degrees 1-7-7-6—1-9-7-6. In addition to providing an intellectual, March Opus '76 is an exciting and musically satisfying concert piece.
