Performance Notes
This trio is written for flexible instrumentation and is accessibility at all levels.
In the first half of the waltz section, feel the first beat of each measure in an upward-lifting manner as you think of the musical phrase. Another important factor is the interpretation of the tenuto marking. Along with its intention of sustaining the full value of the note, it needs to have musical style. This can be achieved variously by putting weight on the note, making the phrase lyrical, and reflecting one’s emotions as much as possible. This will enrich the musical experience.
Section G should be played giving clear attention to the rhythm. Rhythmic inaccuracy should not be accepted. In H and J, individual lines should be well defined and performed with intensity as if each line were a feature. The eighth-note rhythm is essential in the second half of the music.
