Program Notes

This bold, exciting opener is held together by a recurring figure made up of just three notes. The music moves through a variety of fast-paced melodic material before coming to an energetic close. Modern harmonies offer a fresh sound, and an unrelenting energy pervades throughout.

- Program Note from publisher

The Chapa Middle School Band of Kyle, Texas, commissioned Jack Wilds to write this work to commemorate the school’s 10th anniversary and namesake, Armando Chapa. The opening measures present a motive appearing throughout in A-B-A form.

- Program Note from VanderCook College of Music Symphonic Band concert program, 16 December 2016
