Program Notes

The emotional setting of this arrangement effectively captures the reverent beauty of the popular hymn written in 1877. The piece begins with an expressive statement of the beloved hymn tune by solo flute, which is soon joined by solo clarinet. Lush harmonies are added as the piece moves to an effective key change and a moving full ensemble section, The flute and clarinet solos are revisited as the piece moves to a soft, delicate conclusion.
