Program Notes
Known mostly for his numerous art songs and piano pieces, composer and author Sir Charles Hubert Hasting Parry (1848–1918) did much to revitalize the music and musical life of England in the late 19th century.
Parry composed Lady Radnor's Suite (a work originally for string orchestra) in 1894, the same year he succeeded Sir George Grove as director of the Royal College of Music. Lady Radnor's Suite combines very "English" sounding melodies and harmonies within a framework of typical Baroque dance movements.
