Program Notes
In 2011, I composed Sea Goddess (Torinoiwakusufunenokami), myth for winds and percussion, and learned the charm of expressing Japanese mythology with a wind orchestra. And in 2016, I composed Amenominakanushi. As the third installment in the Japanese mythology series, I chose Konohananosakuya-hime.
Sakura Princes, who became the wife of Amaterasu-ōmikami’s grandson, Ninigi-no-Mikoto, is said to be so beautiful that at first glance the cherry blossoms bloom. She is a goddess suitable to be called the best heroine in Japanese mythology.
The composition of this work is roughly divided into three: fast-slow-fast. I wrote various images of Konohananosakuya-hime I imagined.
As for the Japanese drum set, it is good to select a musical instrument such as a shime-taiko, a hira-taiko, a okedo-taiko, or a yagura-taiko, and freely organize it. However, if you are not ready, you can tune bongos, congas, toms, etc. to substitute.
This work was written in 2017 by the commission of the citizen band "Symphonic Ensemble Lilt" in Niigata, Japan.
