Program Notes

The audience will be transported back to December 17, 1903 -- the day Orville and Wilbur Wright piloted the historic first airplane flight. Wind chimes and air blowing through various instruments take us to the windswept beach where the flight took place. As the music intensifies through a flurry of woodwinds and bold brasses, the plane takes off. Gentle harmonies and countermelodies take us along for the ride and the exhilarating theme returns to conclude the piece as the plane touches down.
