Biography
John Bacchus Dykes (10 March 1823, Lingston-upon-Hull, England – 22 January 1876, Sussex, England) was an English clergyman and hymnist.
(The Reverend) Dykes studied at Cambridge University and was ordained at Durham Cathedral in 1849. In 1862, he became vicar of St. Oswald Church in Durham. He published numerous sermons and articles on religion, but he is best-known for his many anthems and hymns, including The Navy Hymn.
