Joel Matthys

Biography

Joel Matthys is an American composer and educator.

Dr. Matthys received his Bachelor of Science degree in music theory and composition from Carroll University (Waukesha, Wisc.), MM in composition from the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee, and DMA in composition from the University of Cincinnati Conservatory of Music.

Since 2013 he has taught at Carroll University specializing in music composition, music theory, computer music programming, contemporary and experimental music.

Dr. Matthys has developed Latido, an innovative student-friendly game which uses pitch tracking to teach rhythm and sight-singing. He also created and conducted the student computer music ensemble CLIME (Carroll Laptop and Innovative Music Ensemble). In addition, he developed and expanded open source music software systems RTcmix and ChucK.
