João Malha


Biography

João (Yann) Malha (b. 1991, Portugal) is a Portuguese pianist, composer and conductor.

Mr. Malha studied wind conducting at the Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa, studying with Alberto Roque, as well as a master's in orchestra conducting with Jean-Marc Burfin. He also studied at Conservatório Regional de Palmela and Escola de Jazz Luís Villas Boas - Hot Club de Portugal.

Currently [2022], he is principal conductor of the Zana Batuta Orquestra, of the Orquestra Médica de Lisboa, of the band of the Philharmonic Society 1º de Dezembro do Montijo, and also assistant conductor of the composer and conductor Jorge Salgueiro in the Setúbal Voz choir.

Malha won the second prize at the VI National Portuguese Symphonic Band Composition Competition, in 2018, with the piece Apoteose and the first prize at the 7th edition of the Wind Orchestra Composition Competition (INATEL Foundation and Symphonic Band of Army), in 2019, with the piece Jazz Suite.
