Biography

James (Jim) Henson (24 September 1936, Greenville, Miss. – 16 May 1990, New York City) was an American puppeteer and conposer.

Henson studied at the University of Maryland, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1960. He created of the Muppets, a group of puppets first shown in 1959. They became famous through their appearances on the television show Sesame Street, as well as through many television specials and movies, and Henson wrote some of their songs.

Henson also appeared on other shows as a puppeteer. He won several prestigious awards, including Entertainer of the Year (1975-1976).
