Jason Mulligan

Biography

Jason Mulligan (b. 2 March 1991, Dallas, Tx.) is an American composer and pianist.

Jason is currently [2021] pursuing a Ph.D. at Duke University where he studies with Stephen Jaffe. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Miami and master’s degree from Peabody Conservatory where he studied with Scott Stinson and Kevin Puts, respectively.

Mulligan is dedicated to creating works that explore issues relevant to modern American society. He is particularly interested in helping to break down stigma that has developed around mental health, anxiety, and sexuality. His music has been performed at various institutions including Southern Methodist University, Idyllwild Arts Academy, the MacPhail Center for Music, Sam Houston State University, Opera America: The National Opera Center, and the International Clarinet Association Clarinetfest to name a few. In 2018 he was the first composer to be featured on a Rising Star Recital as part of the Basically Beethoven Festival in Dallas, TX. His 2019-2020 season included premieres by Gloria Cheng, Kate Dreyfuss, Dawn McConkie, and a concerto for oboist Jim Drayton with the Florida International University Wind Ensemble.

Jason is also an active pianist and embarked on a concert tour with soprano, Alissa Roca in the summer of 2019. In 2020 Jason received a Charles Ives Scholarship from the American Academy of Arts and Letters.
