Program Notes

I was approached by friends of Chris Moura, director of bands at Oak Grove High School. These consortium members told me the story of the incredibly influential couple, Chris and Teresa. They have dedicated their lives to dance and music education. Unfortunately, Teresa passed away after a brave battle with cancer. Her light shines on! This work was commissioned to celebrate her life and her giant positive impact she has left behind with her two children, her husband, and her community.

The work begins with an off-stage trumpet solo, Mr. Moura’s main instrument. After a beautiful call to his wife, the work evolves into a celebration of Teresa’s life. If you listen closely, you can even here a short homage to the UCLA fight song (where Chris and Teresa fell in love).
