Program Notes
Introspective Variations is a work for concert band that is a basic theme and variations. I actually wrote the theme several years before the full set of variations came to during a long bus trip. Although the scoring is for full band, it may be played with fewer instruments since most important parts are doubled. The basic form is as follows:
m.1-10 - Introduction
m.11-38 - Main theme, various orchestrations
m.39-62 - Variation 1 - Allegro
m.63-84 - Variation 2 - Allegro; Legato
m.84-end - Variation 3 - Presto
