Program Notes
The opening features the brass section in a minor mode, chorale-like and very dramatic. The harmonic stress set forth in the opening is soon released with a lyrical trumpet melody, punctuated bass line and a rhythmic woodwind accompaniment. The development of the melody continues with different accompaniment patterns. This is a dramatic and energetic overture that should be in every school library.
