Program Notes

Jim Masters, a long-time associate and student of George Boulden III (1961-2022), associate director of bands at the University of Kentucky, was asked by Boulden's wife to write a piece for Boulden on his passing, a gift from Shelly to George.

Masters crafted a small, simple work with a concert G (for George) as a throughline and with hints of My Old Kentucky Home, primarily in the trombone, Boulden's instrument, and Mahler.
